Trade ad for the movie Night Life of the Gods

Night Life of the Gods (1935)

What should have been a lighthearted screwball romp (based on the Thorne Smith novel The Night Life of the Gods), as a mad scientist (Alan Mowbray) brings the ancient gods to life, unfortunately falls flat, with just a few chuckles amid an overall meandering plot that offers oddities instead of laughs. Despite the poor writing and plodding direction, character actor Alan Mowbray does fairly well in the lead, Peggy Shannon is effective as his fun-loving niece, and Gilbert Emery has a good turn as the butler, who takes all the hijinks in stride. Florinne McKinney is less compelling as Mowbray’s love interest, and the writing leaves the various gods and goddesses — Ray Corrigan among them, billed here as Raymond Benard — too little to do of interest.

Not recommended. Otto thinks you should avoid this movie.
