Girl Missing (WB, 1933)

Poster for the movie Girl MissingKay Curtis (Glenda Farrell) and June Dale (Mary Brian) are two golddiggers left stranded in Florida when their mark (Guy Kibbee) gets wise that he’s not going to get any action. When a former fellow performer marries a millionaire (Ben Lyon) but disappears, perhaps kidnapped, on their wedding night, while a local gambler (Harold Huber) is murdered just outside the hotel, the two gals investigate, hoping to earn the promised reward for finding their missing acquaintance. Will they succeed? Farrell’s wisecracking character and her schemes are central to the movie, and fans will find plenty to like, while the budding romance for Brian’s character is, if a bit implausible, satisfactory within the context of the picture. The culprit will likely be fairly easy to spot, but the story may still hold some surprises.

Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.

Movie 394 for 2021.
