Bob Rivers (Bob Steele) and his pal Grizzly (George ‘Gabby’ Hayes) are pals who wander the West, getting mixed up in all kinds of scrapes and ending up wanted in various localities, despite never acting against the law. Their latest travels take them to California, where they are unknown (and not yet wanted by the law), and they get jobs as drivers for an express line that has been robbed repeatedly, though no one knows how, as the money disappears en route with no stops, and perforce the previous drivers have been blamed. Will Bob and Grizzly be able to solve the mystery and foil the crooks? What about the girl Bob starts to romance? And what will happen when their past catches up with them? Steele is appealing as the youthful hero, and Hayes amuses in an early version of his crotchety older character. Fun and fast-moving, with capable direction by Steele’s father, Robert N. Bradbury.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 104 for 2021.
