Young women traveling alone are disappearing along an isolated stretch of road, but the authorities have been unable to discover what has happened to them. The viewer soon learns, however, that a sinister gas station owner (George Zucco) has something to do with it. The plotters’ plans meet with difficulties, however, after a motorist (Tod Andrews) who ends up stranded along the same stretch is picked up by one such woman (Louise Currie), who later disappears, a woman who has a close connection with the man’s fiancée (Wanda McKay).
This odd mishmash of supernatural and scientific horror is bolstered by Bela Lugosi, once again playing a mad scientist, and also by Henry Hall’s turn as the sheriff. George Zucco unfortunately is given rather too little to do, although his costuming provides some amusement.
Mildly recommended, but chiefly for fans of Lugosi and Zucco.
