Two Americans in Egypt looking for work find murder, cultists, criminal plotters, and the living dead instead. Abbott and Costello, in their last picture for Universal, offer up plenty of laughs, including Lou’s mugging when he finds a corpse and some amusing wordplay of the sort most famously found in their “Who’s on first” routine, but here involving a shovel and a pick. One funny sequence has not one, not two, but three mummies (one the real deal) wandering around. Marie Windsor is effective as a crook, and Richard Deacon does fairly well with a role that would have been perfect for George Zucco. Late Abbott and Costello, but a good one.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
Movie 5 for 2022.
