Movie star Shelah Fane (Dorothy Revier), who is contemplating marriage to Alan Jaynes (William Post, Jr.) but whose past connection with the death of actor Denny Mayo weighs upon her, is found murdered in her pavilion ahead of an evening party. Charlie Chan (Warner Oland) investigates, with no help from his offspring — such less than helpful aid is provided by another policeman. Bela Lugosi has a good role as the seer Tarneverro, whom Shelah Fane consults on the afternoon before her murder, and who has a secret of his own. This fairly early picture is a bit static in parts, but nevertheless is welcome viewing, as most of the very early Chan movies are lost. Recommended for fans.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
