Nearly everyone from his radio show gets a chance to contribute in this Jack Benny movie — Phil Harris is key to setting Jack up to go west (though surprisingly he doesn’t lead his band), Andy Devine has a ranch Jack pretends to own, Dennis Day gets to sing, Mary Livingston contributes her voice, announcer Don Wilson introduces the movie — but Rochester really gets a chance to shine, performing both a song and dance routine early on with Theresa Harris and then a comic dance number late in the movie as well … and of course he and Jack have excellent repartee. The plot is a bit of fluff, but the laughs are plentiful.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
Movie 491 for 2021.
