Heiress Elinor Bentley Fairchild (Alexis Smith) has a problem: her fiancés encounter terrible fates, either dying or ending up crippled. Her desperate grandmother (Helen Westley) turns to a newspaper ad in an effort to attract another potential groom to serve as bait to break the apparent curse, and Lucky Downing (Wayne Morris), who doesn’t know Elinor’s history, happily takes the job, bringing with him his valet (Willie Best). Reporter Lil Barstow (Brenda Marshall) soon clues Lucky in, leading to assorted hijinks as Lucky becomes a target and they try to catch a killer. Alan Hale provides good support as the family butler, and Best is amusing as usual. The three principal leads do well with their parts, and the rest of the supporting cast is good as well, though the viewer is likely to figure out the solution to the mystery early on.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
