Poster for the movie Space Master X-7

Space Master X-7 (Twentieth Century Fox, 1958)

A fungus brought back to Earth by a space probe becomes an ever-growing menace after a scientist brings it home to his lab for examination. The ensuing movie is rather more a procedural investigation (it reminded me a bit of Highway Patrol and Dragnet) than interesting science fiction, and it was weakened by some flaws in the storytelling, such as an attempt to build suspense by having a race to an airport to stop a plane when it seems as though someone should have been able to call and have all departures held to give time for the investigators to arrive. Moe Howard has a small part as a cab driver; the production assistant, Norman Maurer, was his son-in-law, and the director, Edward Bernds, was a long-time friend.

Not really recommended. Otto thinks you should avoid this movie unless you are a 1950s sci-fi completist.

Movie 412 for 2021.
