A veteran engineer (J. Farrell MacDonald) is fired in disgrace after he has a wreck while trying, he says, to avoid running into an oncoming train — yet there was no evidence of such a train on the tracks. His dismissal occurs despite the fact that other, similar instances have been happening. What is the secret of the “phantom express”? Fortunately, Bruce Harrington (William Collier, Jr.), the son of the president of the line, is investigating. MacDonald is sympathetic and moving as a man who sees his career blasted without cause in later middle age, Collier is fine as the earnest young hero, and Sally Blane is suitably appealing as the engineer’s daughter.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
