Count Dracula’s Great Love (1974)

A quintet of travelers (four women and a man) find horror when their coach breaks down and their driver is killed by one of the horses, forcing them to seek refuge at a nearby asylum whose director, Dr. Marlow (Paul Naschy), conceals a secret: he is in fact Count Dracula, who preys upon the surrounding countryside and eyes one of the travelers as a source of blood to revive his dead daughter … and another as the “great love” of the title. Slow pacing undermines the suspense of the movie, originally titled El gran amor del conde Drácula, but some variance from the typical vampire plot (e.g., the daughter) and a rather unexpected conclusion make for a watchable film.

Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.

Movie 319 for 2021.
