In order to go on vacation, a reporter (George Murphy) with a dog tries to solve the mystery of the “Umbrella Man,” suspected in some murders in London. His investigation soon leads him to cross paths with a young woman (Rita Johnson) with a short-tempered father (Montagu Love). Virginia Field has a good role as a barmaid, as does George Zucco as a Scotland Yard official and Leo G. Carroll as Love’s secretary. The dog plays a key role in solving the mystery. There’s nothing too challenging here, but it moves along well enough.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 285 for 2021.
