In Catacombs (aka The Woman Who Wouldn’t Die), the husband of a wealthy and domineering wife becomes enamored of her grown-up niece, newly returned from school in Paris, and he eventually plots his wife’s demise, encouraged by a partner, his wife’s secretary. The deed is done ahead of schedule, however, upsetting their original plans. Moreover, it seems that the dead woman does not rest easy in her makeshift grave. Is she haunting her murderer and his paramour? A few (not wholly unexpected) twists and a fitting ending keep this mild shocker entertaining, despite the dearth of likeable characters.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 175 for 2021.
