An action movie in the vein of the 18 Bronzemen films, in The Unbeaten 28 (original title: Shi ren guan shi ba qi), the protagonist faces a similar battery of trials as he attempts to win the right to a document detailing a secret, powerful martial arts technique. Here, however, the “men” he must fight in some of the challenges are made of stone. Oddly, the abbot of the monastery where the test occurs refers to 18 rather than 28 tests — and I’m not sure the hero actually faces exactly either number. Reasonably entertaining, but derivative.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 142 for 2021.
