A formerly timid alumnus, now a famed band leader, comes to the aid of his alma mater when the founder’s grandson, a former rival in romance, threatens to force the college to close, claiming there is no money to keep it going. The plot is no great shakes, and the acting is atrocious, but those aren’t the draw for this movie; rather, it’s the chance to watch Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five scorching the screen with their musical performances, including the hit that gave the movie its title.
Mildly recommended, strictly for the music. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 119 for 2021.
