Boston Blackie is back, this time arguing for a sort of work-release program for prisoners so they can help with war production efforts. Of course, things go wrong from the very start, as one of the convicts uses permission to visit his wife and child as an opportunity to retrieve the loot from his crime … and the interference of his former accomplices leads to a killing. Will Blackie be able to clear the convict, retrieve the stolen goods, and keep out of Inspector Farraday’s clutches long enough to set things right and ensure the success of the work-release program? The usual fast pace helps maintain interest, and even if the plot itself is implausible, it’s fun to watch Blackie outwit the police again and again.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 105 for 2021.
