While visiting Paris for a convention and a vacation, Dr. Robert Ordway (Warner Baxter) is drawn into the case of a mentally unstable young man who may have killed his father in an argument over the young man’s marriage. Among the oddities of the situation is the fact that the family lawyer, though no criminal law expert, plans to handle the boy’s defense, and it seems likely that the plea will be insanity. What of the young man’s wife? Is there some sort of conspiracy afoot? Also complicating matters is the possibility of art forgery and fraud in the world of art dealers. Baxter is good as always, but the mystery is only so-so.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 93 for 2021.
