A delightful comic entry in the 1960s heist genre, with Audrey Hepburn as the scion of a wealthy family that has its position through skillful art forgery and Peter O’Toole as the man whom she recruits to help her steal one of her family’s fakes, on loan to a museum, before an insurance evaluation can reveal its fraudulent nature. In the course of planning and effecting this robbery, they find love as well. Hugh Griffith is terrific as Hepburn’s father, who feels no guilt for the deceit — albeit he fears discovery — and rather takes pride in his and his ancestors’ ability to successfully mimic the masters. And Eli Wallach, looking far different from his portrayal in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, adds an additional element of amusement as a driven art collector. Well worth the viewer’s time.
Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
