A bombastic radio detective, Bill Martin (Jack Oakie), with a dim view of the police finds himself the latest target of a “poison pen” killer. Is he up to the task of foiling the fiend? Can the woman (Ann Sothern) who loves him keep him alive and employed and on good terms with the police? There’s no real mystery in this romp, as the identity of the killer is revealed early on, but it’s a pleasure watching his plans unfold and bump into Bill’s apparently impregnable luck. Oakie is good in his role, as is Sothern, though she has a bit too little to do; both Eduardo Ciannelli and Edgar Kennedy contribute a good deal in supporting roles.

  Recommended. Otto finds this one pleasing enough to relax.
