Inspector Trent (Ralph Bellamy) returns in the third of four movies in the short series, and once again, though called in ahead of time by someone worried about a possible crime, he proves unable to prevent a murder. Gail Patrick does a fine turn as the title character, though the character’s viciousness leaves ample scope for multiple “crimes.” There are plenty of suspects for the eventual murder, an unsurprising follow-on killing, and a bit of a surprise in the demise of another character, the first victim’s ex-husband. However, the denouement is weak, with the culprit rather unexpectedly breaking down and confessing all. A decent little mystery, but nothing special.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 78 for 2021.
