Snow takes the place of sand — at least for most of the movie — in this variation on the beach movie theme, with Frankie Avalon and Dwayne Hickman as college kids who join a ski club outing in order to be near the girls they hope to romance (Deborah Walley and Yvonne Craig). The plot is slight, as is to be expected, with the guys going in drag (as in Some Like It Hot, directly referenced), Robert Q. Lewis as the uptight manager of the ski lodge on the brink of madness, a yodeling polar bear on skis, and some slope shenanigans before a long chase. Musical performances include Lesley Gore singing “Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows” and James Brown and the Fabulous Flames doing “I Feel Good.” Professor Roberts will be familiar, too. Overall, a pleasant way to spend a little time.
Mildly recommended. Otto judiciously thinks this movie is OK, but not great.
Movie 64 for 2021.
