Welcome to The Lure of the Dim Trails, named after a 1907 western authored by B. M. Bower and illustrated by the superlative Charles M. Russell; indeed, the header image above is taken from the frontispiece Russell provided for the novel.
In the posts to come, you will find comments on books, movies, and magazines, chiefly older and, even if once quite popular, generally less well-known, in genres such as mystery and western, adventure and sword and sorcery. Ancient and medieval literature will have a place, too, as well as vintage cartoons and comic strips.
Likewise, there will be posts on model railroading with an emphasis on the vintage, whether in the hobby press or in models, in both S scale (American Flyer, of course, but early suppliers to the scale will get a look-in as well) and HO scale (such long-gone makers as John English/Hobbyline and Varney, and those that survived for a time, or still survive, but represented mostly in their earlier production), although later products may appear from time to time as well.
Beyond that, expect a miscellany of occasional topics, covering vintage ads, striking signs and buildings, antique toys, and more, as I follow the dim trails of the past.
